Ron Fox: Trumpet

Ron Fox holds a B.M. in Trumpet performance from the University of Miami, Florida and an M.S. in Music Education from Dowling College, Oakdale, NY.  He studied with James Burke, Cecil Bridgewater, Dave Burns and Gilbert Johnson.


As a performer Ron has played lead trumpet with Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Frankie Valli, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Spinners, The Drifters, The Platters, Gloria Gaynor, Tony Orlando, Tom Jones and Dionne Warwick.


Ron is an original member of The Funk Filharmonik. The band has performed with former Tower of Power members Greg Adams and Lenny Pickett; David Letterman band members, Paul Shaffer, Will Lee and Al Chez and former Blood Sweat and Tears trumpeter Lew Soloff to name a few. Ron is also freelancing in  New York performing shows, big band, jazz, classical and recording work.

    

As an educator, Ron has been an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College where he directed the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble. He has been a member of the music faculty at East Islip Public Schools, LI NY since 1995.  Both the Concert Band and Jazz Ensembles under his direction have consistently received excellent and superior ratings at Music in the Parks and Ovation

music festivals.  His Jazz Ensemble received best overall Jazz Ensemble at a Music in the Parks Festival. Ron also is a co-chairmen and rehearsal director for the Suffolk All-County Jazz Ensemble.

    

Ron is an active member of NYSSMA, MENC, SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators Association) and the Associated Musicians

of Greater New York, Local 802 AFM.
