Jack Knight, bass

Place & Date of Birth:
Never born, came out from under a rock some years back.

Instrument(s): Bass - I was a Cello major in college…decided that there were no minor league gigs for cello that I would like (I sucked), so took a leave of absence, moved to Europe for a couple years and started playing bass. The phone started ringing off the wall for gigs so I said “Hey, this is cool”. Came back to the States to finish my degree however never stopped playing bass.

Education:
Crane School of Music, Mozart Konservatory (Augsburg, Germany),
the road.

Influences:
Anthony Jackson-the duration that he choses to play any given note is brilliant. Jaco.

Funk Filharmonik History:
Member since 1997 and I carry the Funk Card.

How’d you get that gig:
Worked in other bands with the drummer and we heard music the same way. Ended up being the sub for the band. Rich Ebler (Original Funker) had to split to Texas. The fit was right so here I am baby.

Most memorable funk gig:
Tramps closing night, New York City. The band definitely left funk fallout residue in the place from that gig.

Gear/Endorsements:
I got a thing with Hartke and Samson Wireless.

If I could play a different Instrument in the Band it would be:
Hmmmm that’s interesting. I don’t really want to play an instrument with my face like a trombone. I’d take the guitar slot. As long as I can help laying down the riddim I’m happy.

Discography/Other Gigs/Who’d I ever play with:
Mario Cruz, The Cruz Brothers, Kix, Sidestep, Prophet (Return to Forever Review), Tough Fred, a plethora of club date bands, Art Garfunkel, Jimmy Buffet, Steven Stills, Gladys Knight, yadda, yadda but the best cats I’ve worked with…Funk Filharmonik.
